Promoting a city or area is a tricky thing to get right. Too earnest, and you look boring; too edgy and you risk alienating families, and those of a sensitive disposition. How about going for just downright peculiar then? And a surreal cast of wooden figures?

That’s exactly what the animation students of University of the Arts Bremen did in the series Like Bremen, creating stop-motion animations that ponder questions including “Are vegan Hipsters the REAL terrorists?” (no, if you’re asking me, an east London-living vegan); and show “greedy and selfish” politicians through the eyes of hapless superhero Bre-Man. There’s swearing, there’s drunkenness, there’s a cute dog and an existential punk among the peculiar cast. But the starring role has to go to the policeman in Donkey, Dog, Cat & Epic Cock Humiliate Super Hero, strolling on at the end to point at poor, piss-soaked Bre-Man, and declaring: “It is illegal to be a toilet.” Like Bremen? We ruddy love it now.
