An abstract, loose yet accomplished approach to book cover design by Lucy Jones

Date
2 December 2015

Some lovely illustrative book cover designs here from Manchester-based Lucy Jones, who we first featured for her poster work back in 2013. She’s now made herself a new website, and while her poster work is still strong, it’s her book covers that got us excited this time. Her style takes naive mark-making and couples it with a carefully constructed layout where negative space is used to wonderful effect. The mix of loose brushstrokes, collage, geometric shapes and typographic elements mean that each cover is an abstract gesture. The text is minimal, marking a brave approach to designing for literature.
