Maya Fuhr challenges the fashion editorial gaze in her shoot for Milk Magazine
Maya Fuhr’s photographs capture the prolific youths of New York and Toronto’s creative scenes, and in a recent shoot for online magazine Milk she photographed the collection of up-and-coming fashion label Moses Gauntlett Cheng. The shoot, which accompanies an interview with David Moses – one of the founding trio – shows a male model with a tidy handlebar moustache striking poses that are usually showing up all over the pages of Vogue or Elle. By having a man lying on his back in a crop top, staring languidly into the camera and pulling coy expressions whilst wearing transparent PVC boots, Maya highlights the commonly accepted but unarguably ridiculous nature of mainstream fashion editorial – all while showing off the brilliant clothes of MGC and their peers.
