Proper weird illustration from the sensationally strange Penelope Gazin

Weird is a word that’s applied lazily to anything that’s even vaguely out of the ordinary. You start chatting to a stranger on the bus: “Weird!” You have a dream where you’re in your house, and it doesn’t look anything like your house, but all your family live there and you have your own room so it must be your house: “Weird!” You take a new route on the walk home from work for no particular reason at all: “Weird!” None of these things are weird you damn fools. Weird is MUCH more exciting than that.

You know what’s weird? Penelope Gazin’s illustrations. They feature men vomiting green slime on women, winking breasts licking each other, a man with a yonic face chewing seductively on his lover’s hand and a pale blue woman floating in a vat of meat. That’s proper weirdness right there! In fact Penelope’s work is so weird that I’m borderline convinced she’s not a real human woman. In my mind she’s like Lisa Marie’s character in Mars Attacks!, waiting to bite your hand off as soon as you realise she’s not actually of this world. You mark my words, your hands are not safe!
