Fluorescent fine art identity for Jonas Burgert from the prolific Praline

“Churn out” always sounds like a derisive expression when referring to exceptional creative work, but the prolific nature of some studios means it’s the only one I like to use use to conjure up the relentless mechanical precision with which these studios proceed – and I definitely don’t mean it derisively. And so to Praline, the products of whose churning we’re here to admire.

For their third collaboration with London’s BlainSouthern Gallery, Praline have designed the identity, catalogue and exhibition graphics for a Jonas Burgert show that coincides with this year’s Frieze – a fluorescent accompaniment to an extremely surreal body of work – that puts a luminous green and German Grotesk typeface centre stage. Of the project Praline say: “Jonas’ paintings are unique spectacles in themselves, which is why a poisonous green horizontal line was used to reference the idea of ‘Theatre’ and ‘Stage’ in Jonas’s work, it is repeated throughout the identity, becoming a common thread that ties all the marketing material together.” Hard to argue with that…
