Rachel Levit illustrates contemporary relationships in new book

Heroes of independent publishing Draw Down are connoisseurs of great taste, reaffirmed by its decision to release a book of delectable drawings by Rachel Levit.

Shifted is a recent series observing and commenting “on gender, femininity and contemporary relationships.” Rachel’s work is composed of full colour drawings and distinctive ceramic personalities, but her talent as an illustrator shines through in this monochrome colour palette. With an eye for space and figurative composition Rachel’s ability to caricature the everyday is a balance of the relatable and ambiguous. The result is a book that “utilises fractures, fragmentation, and displacement to create portraits of both women and men.”

Over the years of developing her portfolio as an illustrator Rachel has completed work for clients including The New York Times and The New Yorker, but Shifted displays a creative both commissionable and independently producing idiosyncratic work.

The book launched at this years Printed Matter’s New York art book fair and is available now.
