Awesome new work from first-rate arranger of things, Rand Renfrow

Date
16 January 2015

Rand Renfrow is one of the illustrators we came across among the scores of upcoming artists and illustrators publishing with Clay Hickson’s independent project Tan & Loose yesterday, and seeing as how last time we featured him it was in our Introducing feature nearly two years ago, it seemed high time to check in.

Rand is an arranger. He places an assortment of vases, hats, sunglasses, teapots, statues and skateboards side by side, then puts them back and tries it again until he finds a set-up which best suits his needs, ready to draw the whole lot with his trademark coloured pencils. That’s not to say that arranging is all that he does – he’s a deft hand when it comes to printmaking, too – but it makes for a delightfully recognisable style. His work is something like what I imagine shows like The Simpsons or Family Guy might have looked like in their early storyboarding stages, which hopefully only means good things for him. And I can only imagine what his actual bookshelves look like.
