Strange posters and superb typography from Venetian studio Tankboys

Date
20 May 2016

Venetian design studio Tankboys prides itself on a conceptual approach to graphic design, looking beyond aesthetics to get to the ideas behind a brief. Its website is a testament to that stance, presenting reams of work. The studio, founded by Lorenzo Mason and Marco Campardo in 2005, says that in its work, “process is more important than the final result.” Tankboys adds: “Graphic design is not only about the visual flair and appearance, but should be about critically engaging with any content, topic or idea that arises from a project.”

Currently working with Tate Modern, Tankboys’ previous projects have included commissions for Berlin-based label Morphine Records, Dalston’s Cafe Oto, Pig Magazine and the 2015 Milan Expo. The work we present here showcases the studio’s flair for straight-up yet innovative use of typography, as well as some superb typographic design in the form of Tankboys’ typeface, Gigi.
