Tulips and 70s disco feature in Carlijn Jacobs’ glam editorial shoot for Oyster magazine

Amsterdam-based photographer Carlijn Jacobs has a strong portfolio of fashion editorial work for cool publications like iD and Sleek magazine, and this shoot for Oyster magazine a few months ago perfectly encapsulates her slick aesthetic.

A funky mix of metallics and jewel-like greens and reds, the idea was to create a glamorous shoot with a modern and sophisticated edge. Called Let’s Dance, the series nods to the 70s, disco, punk and even Holland. “I wanted to combine the idea of Holland with glam which at first felt almost impossible,” explains Carlijn. But with beautiful, blue blooms held by a “typical dutch girl,” the photographer succeeds in creating images that feel both current and brilliantly dated. This nostalgic vibe is amped up by stylist Guiliano Bolivar’s choice of shiny and textured fabrics, and the fabulous hair flicks and luscious red lips put together by Dennis Michael are simply divine.
