From epic landscapes to vibrant typographic illustration: introducing four creatives at JSR

Date
2 June 2016

London-based agency Jamie Stephen Represents (JSR) was founded in 2005 and now has a global roster of photographers, illustrators and directors. Below, we introduce four talents who work with JSR and show some of their best work.

Luke Waller

Bath-based illustrator Luke has a distinctive hand-drawn style that has been commissioned by the likes of BBC History and British Airways’ magazine Highlife. For the past five years he has provided illustration for the Diary page of the Financial Times covering everything from articles about the strange laws of Singapore that require a bomb shelter in every home to randy French Bulldogs. Luke’s careful use of colour and approach to controlling depth and texture enable him to convey complex narratives in a single frame (image at top of page). He regularly updates his blog with fascinating insights into his work and is also working on a book based on true stories of his father and uncle’s time in the police force.

Stuart Hall: Mountain

Stuart Hall

Photographer Stuart Hall specialises in cinematic landscape shots that have an epic quality. His meticulous preparation for each shot requires that he visits a site many times to find the perfect location and viewpoint, often encountering hostile and difficult conditions. His landscape shots capture vast expanses of land and the textures with perspectives that are not easily achieved. His commercial work for the likes of Honda, EasyJet and Sony sees him apply his cinematic sensibilities to portraiture, cityscapes and lifestyle shoots.

Justin Poulter: KAELI

Justin Poulter

London-based, Cape Town-born illustrator Justin Poulter has spent his career moving between the two cities, finally settling back in the UK in 2014. Having studied graphic design and illustration at Cape Peninsula University of Technology his hand lettering and drawing skills have been commissioned by Vans, Google, Bacardi and Red Bull. Justin readily clashes styles and references to create vibrant works that have an energy and attitude that acknowledges the past but is recognisably modern.

Having shot for the likes of Margaret Howell, White Stuff and Nigel Cabourne, Matt’s work has a calm and considered approach which manages to convey emotion and authenticity. Matt also has a keen sense of history having shot campaigns inspired by Scott’s crossing of the Antarctic and the pioneering female pilot Amy Johnson.
