The brilliant Mat Maitland is back with more luxuriously surreal collages

Date
6 October 2015

Mat Maitland is the king of making collage look expensive. We’ve not featured his work for a while, but since smothering Cartier bangles in mustard and creating surreal Michael Jackson-themed imagery, the London-based artist has been busy. Making work for Le Monde M, Jean Paul Gaultier x Kylie Minogue, Please magazine and Interview among others, Mat’s fabulously decadent style still continues to be rich in references and garishly textured. High-end and delectably slick, it’s Mat’s composition that sets him apart, seamlessly stitching together lacquered limbs, glossy accessories and obscure props.
