Maziyar Pahlevan’s monochrome portfolio is full of typographic experiments

Graphic designer Maziyar Pahlevan has been working for five years after getting his BA from the Royal Academy of Art The Hague and later his MFA from Yale. His portfolio is a cornucopia of monochrome delights where personal work and commissioned projects sit happily next to each other.

The designer mostly works on projects related to visual arts and music, enjoying working on exhibition design and creating hand lettering and typography. He describes his style as “no frills” and the work he’s created for various clients epitomises this, like the series of gifs he’s created for The New York Times and its What’s in The World column.

Other projects include cassette packaging for a script he wrote that was performed and recorded called All Mouth, a poster for the Yale University Art Gallery Book Fair and an experimental type zine published by Draw Down books that sees the designer play and manipulate type in a considered yet unobstructed way.
