Fantastic typographic designs by ECAL student Simon Mager

Date
11 April 2016

We initially visited the work of German graphic designer Simon Mager when he’d first started his typography MA at ECAL, and judging from his site his work’s gone from strength to strength. A particularly impressive recent project demonstrates his typographic prowess, in the forms of his Tonal Grotesk typeface design. The face is based on Haas’sche Normal Grotesk, and its sans serif forms have a modern yet storied feel to them. Presented alongside carefully constructed patterns and snippets of photography, the specimen book is as well designed as the face itself. We predict major (Mager, geddit?) things for this young whippersnapper.
