It's Nice That Issue #4: Interviews
We excitedly released the pre-order of our fourth publication last Wednesday and feel it’s only right to give you an idea of the content in the weeks leading up to its launch. Today, we haphazardly dive into the interviews and provide brief accounts of what Nick Knight, Neville Brody, Miranda July et al are really talking about. Check the site out over the next few weeks for further information.
Nick Knight
Nick tells us how he doesn’t really know how to define himself; how “over the last twenty years we’ve seen a real demise of photography”; and how, during a live photoshoot as part of SHOWstudio’s recent Fashion Revolution exhibition, he saw “an amazing light-show” going on all over Lady Gaga’s face.
Neville Brody
Neville candidly reveals how he believes Damien Hirst is “more like a creative director”; how, with the Anti Design Festival, he’s “trying to provide a channel where the idea of taking risks can be embraced”; and (after not much persuasion) tells us what he’s really got planned for the RCA.
RBG6
Swedish duo RBG6 talk about how “making films is more fun than doing a catalogue,” and how “you just have to fight for your ideas and not think too client friendly.” They also reveal how “it would be great to get a script that doesn’t involve directing kids or animals!”
Bompass & Parr
Sam Bompass reveals how their first job was “going down to the Beaver Scout hut and giving out some jellies”; how he would “rather be Ronald McDonald than a three-star Michelin chef”; and how they once filled a whole building with cognac.
Noma Bar
Noma Bar tells us how he loves “magic” and the “simplicity” of creating something that seems effortless; how he sits in the woods for “five or six hours” every day; and how all he’s trying to do is “tell a story with as few elements as possible.”
Miranda July
Miranda talks about the “immersion and agony” of hard work; how she sees herself from “the inside-out,” and that, compared to Me and You and Everyone We Know, her upcoming film is a “much weirder movie in some ways than the first,” which seems hard to believe until you understand what this woman is really capable of.
