Anthony Gerace presents “And Another Thing …”: a new book of artworks and collages

Artist Anthony Gerace presents his new monograph And Another Thing… a collection of artworks and collages spanning the last seven years. The book, published by Ain’t Bad editions, contains 128 pages of work and is printed in a limited run of 700 copies. “What I wanted to do with this book was present where the work was going and the work I have been dealing with for a long time,” the artist explains. The book contains collages executed with precision and control, providing a wealth of information that can be interpreted at speed, or carefully picked apart and decoded. Each work is unified by a precision and depth that demands attention from the reader.

And Another Thing… opens with a quote by Christopher Priest, and Anthony has long been inspired by his work The Affirmation, which Priest described as “a sequel to itself.” Anthony’s book plays on these themes, the journey through the book is didactic, there are moments of pause, where certain pieces demand a slower gaze, and other areas where ambiguity reigns. “ I thought it was such a crazy way to describe a book as a cyclical work, rather than a journey from A to B,” he explains.

Anthony was given “total free reign” by the publisher to design the book. “I trained as a graphic designer, which may be clear from some of the more anal qualities of the work,” he says with a laugh. “I did all the design and typesetting, and while some of the work has been seen before, it is a new piece of work in itself. I made connections I didn’t know were there in pieces of my archive, which has over 2000 pieces in it. There were things in the work I didn’t know I was saying.”

Having completed And Another Thing… Anthony is finding that he works more decisively and has a desire to produce more. “For so long these works have been discrete objects, only seen together on screen – on my website, other websites and Instagram. They were atomised as pieces, now they sit together,” he explains. “It was when I held the completed book in my hands that I realised I needed to do another book as soon as possible.”
