Illustration: Artomatic is a photo booth producing original works of hand-drawn art

Photo booths have been doing the rounds of fancy parties in London for a few years now, and while there are still few things more entertaining than having your drunk moony preserved in photographic form for years to come, there are only so many times you can pose with a fake moustache and a wig on. Cue Artomatic.

Artomatic is kind of a photo booth, but with an artful twist; sit inside, and you’ll have your portrait drawn by an illustrator or artist sat hidden in the booth opposite you. The illustrators involved include Kyle Platts, Paul Layzell, Richard Luxton and Thomas Slater – an admirable selection of some of our favourite creatives – and, aware of the curiosity this glorious invention has mustered, they’ve kindly shared a selection of the portraits they’ve cobbled together on the Artomatic blog.

The eclectic selection of styles combined with some imaginative caricaturing make for a brilliant selection of portraits. Give me a giant green nose and a piece of original artwork over an embarrassing drunk shot immortalised on my fridge forevermore any day of the week.
