Dario Gracceva's smart graphic design show identity created by the visitors

I have to admit I’ve been late to the party on a lot of things: a sensible hotmail address, a little-known series called Twin Peaks, learning to iron clothes, for instance. Another to add to the list of recent brilliant discoveries is the work of Dario Gracceva, who recently got in touch about his identity for the London College of Communication MA Graphic Design Show 2014.

Working with Sarah Krebietke on the design, Dario took the idea for the format from the course itself, inviting visitors to “piece through visual fragments from such diverse fields as design, science and technology, architecture, journalism, literature, and photography.” By looking at these disciplines as represented in the exhibition, viewers could take poster fragments that caught their eye and assemble their own publication, in whatever order they liked. The idea is that just as each individual’s take on the show and the work in it is unique, so is the publication they take away from it.

Dario says: “Drawing on experience and insight, a designer or writer decides on the content and the order of each page of a publication, working to create a finished piece. But this publication is not yet finished. In this MA Graphic Design Show, your task is to gain your own experience and insights to help you craft a publication of your own.

“Using the same research that informed the projects in this course, you will assemble your own work that is tied directly to your actions and experiences in this space. Driven by personal interests, your publication can take many forms and shapes.”

Alongside this project, Dario’s site shows him to have undertaken a wealth of other well-executed poster and identity designs, including promotional work for Logos festival and a slick identity for Italian creative agency Studio Algoritmo.
