Lausanne-based graphic designer Frédéric Held achieves a lot using a little

Date
4 July 2016

Frédéric Held is a Lausanne-based graphic designer with an assured grasp of typography and text-based composition. His work for kissthedesign store is based on a crisp sans serif font that superscripts certain characters to amalgamate words within the layout and signage. This playfully disruptive element to the identity turns a very simple graphic language into one that is more engaging and complex. Similarly, Frédéric’s flyers for un dimanche en foret take the same image and overlay the same text in three different ways – firstly centre aligned, then scattered across the page and, finaly, snaking up the middle of the page. With a simple variation using few elements, his work tests what is possible with a minimalist approach.

Frédéric has been testing his approach across identities, posters, webdesign and wayfinding – including a commission for a hotel and another for a small stadium. His recently updated website shows work dating back to 2010, and with it an increasingly assured visual language.
