Laurina Paperina's dark, weird but charming work

Date
29 June 2016

Lauren Paperina is a fascinating character, and one surely with something of an unusual, dark mind. Her illustrations are heavy on poo, gore and sex; and though she’s recently moved more into creating sculptures and installations pieces, we’re enamoured with her drawing style, which is simple, weird and funny. One of her most recent projects is a superb animation for Spanish quartet Hinds, and Laurina also designed a zine for the gang’s new single Bamboo. The film is a cute and naively drawn little rock and roll romp, and mixes strange little characters with psychedelic backdrops to charming effect. Laurina was born and works in Italy, and cites her reference points and 1980s and 90s pop culture.
