The new issue of art, culture and surfing magazine WAX has launched with a bang!
You don’t get much cooler than a fluorescent publication about art and surfing produced in Brooklyn, but luckily WAX magazine has proved itself not to just be another trendy rag, but a bonafide pleasure for all who see it. Take, for example, Printed Pages editor James Cartwright’s reaction when it plopped into the It’s Nice That offices the other day – he squealed like a little piggy and ripped off its plastic binding to flick through its fresh, untouched pages.
Before you start stereotyping, WAX ain’t just some magazine about sea-loving boy-men with white dreads, oh no, the guys who make it state that each issue is “organised around a unique theme and shares the stories of area surfers who are also artists, designers, authors and auteurs.” For their fifth issue they’ve produced a super-fun promo video (below) with a Fitter, Happier-esque voiceover crossed with sun-kissed babes frolicking in the sun, which is a really great way of giving you a taste of what vibes are in store before you commit to purchasing a copy.
Inside the mag they’ve got some of the most radical and interesting game-changers of the art world at the moment, such as Cory Arcangel, Lucas Blalock, Xavier Cha and Hans Ulrich Obrist. Anyone else picturing Hans Ulrich Obrist catching a wave in some board shorts and shimmying into the sunset, feet akimbo right now? Me too – juicy! Anyway, summer’s here and this is the perfect magazine to accompany it – so go get yourself a copy, stat.
