Geometric illustration full of summer sun from the aptly-named Ray Oranges
Ray Oranges’ name says more or less everything you need to know about the kind of work he makes. Taking his title from the most summery and brightest of all the fruits produces illustration that’s awash with hazy sunshine colours and simple, satisfying geometry. Even more appropriately, Ray hails from the seaside town of Calabria, southern Italy, which undoubtedly explains his penchant for warm colours and clear blue skye. Drawing inspiration from surrealist landscapes and modernist architecture in equal measure, Ray’s images echo science fiction book covers from the 1960s and 1970s, albeit with less of an imposing menace.
