Perfect type and considered visual flourishes in Stockholm-based Studio Parasto Backman's graphics

When a package of shiny, bright pink typographic goodness arrived at INT Towers, we naturally tore into it, the magpie-like, animalistic, design hungry creatures that we are. Inside, the booklets were entirely in Swedish, but no matter – once again, we were breaking the rules and judging these fine pieces of print on their covers alone. Said covers were created by the talented hands at Studio Parasto Backman. The agency is based in Stockholm, and works largely for cultural clients such as arts and theatre organisations.

We were particularly taken by the cover design for Jean, a booklet detailing a dance performance which “touches on subjects such as deconstruction of masculinity, power, class and sexuality,” according to the agency. Elsewhere there’s some beautiful work for Svart Kvinna, a book about Swedish racism against black women that uses a shiny cover and thoughtful monochrome, geometric patterned layouts. The agency’s way with typography and unusual flourishes is beautiful, and perfectly fitting for the left-of-centre subject matter of their projects.
