What's On: Thomas Struth: Photographs 1978 - 2010
Thomas Struth’s photographs are fascinating in a grand sort of way. They question the awe-inspiring effect that monumental engineering, architecture, works of art or natural phenomena have on us humans. Some of his works feature these witnesses, connected by their collective appreciation and a still concentration that has been experienced by countless others in the exact same spot year after year. Struth – “one of the most important photographers of the late 20th century” – transports us to a place and into a moment brilliantly, this time at the Whitechapel Gallery where a survey of his large-scale works are now on show.
