It’s Wet! It’s Willd! It’s The Weekender! Let's do this

It’s the end of the week, it’s rainy, it’s miserable. But we’re not – and you shouldn’t be either – thanks to this decidedly bright bunch of creative brilliance that will see you through the weekend with a sunshiny spring on your step. Perhaps that’s a bit too much, but it might make sitting indoors debating if it’s too soon to pop heating on a little more pleasurable.

– This week we’ve kicked off our series of Digital Publishing features by asking five top website editors and founders why they love online publishing and a getting a thrilling insight into meme site Brown Cardigan from its anonymous founders.

– If you haven’t already been struck by the big blue announcement on our site, we’ve announced the imminent launch of the It’s Nice That Annual, and good god we’re excited about it.

– This week on the Studio Audience podcast, in a departure from the rest of the country, we had a good natter about Kim Kardashian’s bottom and what it means for magazine publishing, and the panel discussion we held this week at LCC exploring design and education.

– This week Pentagram designer Jessica Svendsen let us rifle through her shelves of inspiring publications in our Bookshelf feature, where she listed notoriously easy read Ulysses by James Joyce as one of her influences.

– We’ve been loving the latest Adult Swim offering Too Many Cooks

– This week you’ve been going loopy over Neue studio’s Norwegian passport designs, which feature beautifully-designed spreads which take their inspiration from the country’s lakes and mountains.

– Nick Turpin’s photographs of Londoners on the bus are great, with a beautifully painterly feel.

We all love to celebrate the successes of Kickstarter. It’s so satisfying to see people with great ideas getting the funding to turn them into reality. But what’s also enjoyable is to see the horrendous failures of some people’s misguided pipe-dreams trampled on by the internet in a display of wilful ambivalence. Kickended collects all those failures together – the ones that couldn’t even generate enough interest rub a couple of pennies together – and revels in their poor misfortune. I can’t get enough. Liars are a band with a brilliant knack for commissioning art, and most recent album Mess was perhaps their best yet, with every release, bit of merch and other online touchpoint tied together with a brilliant brightly coloured string motif. The new video for the MimiCof remix of single Left Speaker Blown, directed by Markus Wambsganss, is no different, with a mesmerising mix of skin, sinew, hair and string.

Sometimes I worry that there’s too much bluster around the creative process, so Andrea de la Concha’s ChairAXJ01 is a welcome antidote. Developed when she was a third year at Central Saint Martins, sitters can create patterns using their asses and print the results. It’s silly, it’s fun and it if like me you really want it to, it makes a neat point.
