What's On: Richard Hollis

Posted by Bryony Quinn,

Richard Hollis’ pedagogic endeavours both as designer and writer earned him a “graphic designer’s graphic designer” epithet but no real public profile to speak of. This was despite some seismic contributions to the design cause since the 1950s – he worked with a young Nicolas Serota at the Whitechapel, provided design framework for artists like Steve McQueen, wrote and produced Graphic Design: a Concise History and designed Ways of Seeing by John Berger for goodness sake! Opening this week at the Gallery Libby Sellers, curated by design historian Emily King, items from across Hollis’ career will be on show. And let it be a lesson to us all.
