Photography: Where Architects Live does exactly what it says on the tin
There’s a natural compunction to measure creatives by the choices they make in the exact fields in which they work. Where do chefs eat? What do authors read? And now where do architects live, which is the subject of a show planned for this year’s Milan Salone.
Having photographed the houses of the likes of David Chipperfield, Zaha Hadid and Shigeru Ban, the curators will build an interactive exhibition recreating their spaces. Let’s be honest here; on one level this works simply by satiating our nosiness into their lives. But more than that they can be studied in the hunt for clues as to whether theses creatives practice what they preach. Are their rooms packed full of discernible distillations of the ideas that underpin their work, or in actual fact even architects separate the professional and the personal with spaces that bear little resemblance to their practice. Either way, this promises to be one of the highlights of Milan 2014.
