Chaka Khan unveils the video to new single Like Sugar ahead of her new album to be announced later this year.

The video, directed by Kim Gehrig, was shot in London and depicts a succession of looped dancers, emulating a real-life glitch in the system, displaying frenetic energy amid colourful pops of shirts, ceilings and backdrops.

Speaking to It’s Nice That about the video, Gehrig says, “When I first heard the track I loved the disco sound married with the fresh production, so I wanted to visually represent that. I wanted to imagine if Soul Train happened now, what would it look like? What would the moves be? What would the fashion be like? Then combine that with in-camera looping, to echo the looping of the music. I wanted the movement to be infectious and to grow in energy and numbers”.

“We shot for one day in London. The location was an old petrol station in White City which was then demolished three days later… so we felt very lucky to get it”.

Gehrig has previously worked on commercials, music videos and shorts for everyone from Basement Jaxx and Calvin Harris, to Ikea, Cadbury and most notably, Sport England. Chaka Khan collaborated with Major Lazer and producer Switch for this uptempo track featuring Khan’s soulful vocals on top of percussive disco injections.

The video can be viewed below and Like Sugar is released on Diary Records out now.
