An ode to stamps in Amaury Hamon and Marine Giraudo’s marvellous book

French designer Amaury Hamon’s philately-inspired book focuses on the 50th birthday of Société Philatélique de Renens (SPR), the stamp collecting association of Renens, Switzerland. Created in collaboration with Marine Giraudo the publication is a visual ode to stamps and looks at their key elements, as well as what draws collectors in. “The goal is to look at the stamps the way a collector would, to attract more and more people to rediscover a passion struggling to survive in a digital environment,” explains Amaury.

Amaury is currently a student at Swiss design school ECAL, a hub of creative talent whose students we’ve covered several times in the past including the in-house type foundry set up last year. This book was a one week project and the level of detail achieved is impressive. The pages vary in layout, with some mimicking traditional stamp books while others eschew the grid and adopt a looser, collaged aesthetic, allowing the individual stamp characteristics shine. Off-white pages are covered in beautiful gem-like pinks and blues and even the way Amaury has documented the project feels as though we’ve stumbled upon a collector’s prized stash.
