Jem Goulding seduces us with her photographs of beautiful views...
It’s never encouraged to objectify people. It’s degrading, it’s sexist (normally) and we forget about the important things in life like personality and good manners. But with Jem Goulding’s photographs of beautiful men, I can’t help but stare and linger. It’s shameful yes, but Jem’s photographs are genuinely very good images.
As a writer, director and photographer, Jem wants her images to have the same power as her words do, exploring themes of beauty and freedom. In this series, the pictures are natural and care-free and by using film she creates an atmospheric, hazy glow giving her subjects this hollywood actor/rock star aura about them.
But these are no mere models, the images come from a forthcoming book and all the subjects are Jem’s former lovers, photographed as part of an exploration of how fleeting romances and holiday flings are defined by and define those involved.
