Woop woop! It's the sound of the new Weekender with Things, fun and some things you MUST have read
….and lo, Friday afternoon arrives and we crest it together like a well-built schooner cutting through the waves on a rolling (but NOT stormy) ocean. Back slaps all round gang! And our gift to you is the new look Weekender with Things, the usual nonsense and six articles you really should have read this week.
6: That boy is climbing up the sky!
We totally fell for these dreamy pencil creations from Baptiste Alchourroun. His portfolio is, like, the ultimate in graphic design and illustration combos and is well worth a look.
5: Remember that space cat off the Klaxons album?
h3.Welllllll the photographer, Mads Perch (great name) is back with some mega, mega great updates. I mean they’re weird, yeah, but what isn’t? Treat yo eyes!
4: Jack Hudson you’ve gone and done it again.
We love you Jack Hudson. You’re funny and your art is funny too. He and Lord Whitney have collaborated to make these hilarious imagined LP covers. WELL DONE.
3: Preternaturally talented student alert!
We were genuinely open-mouthed at these landscapes created on Luke Evans’ kitchen table. Turns out you can do a lot with a bed sheet, some flour and some glycerine. Hats off to you, Luke!
2: Hands up if you friggin’ LOVE McDonalds!
Yes, my hand is up, and I’m typing with one hand. But that’s okay because it doesn’t take much to sit back and enjoy the photos by Nolan Conway depicting the diverse range of McDonalds Customers. Bit pissed off I’m not part of this series, but very happy to sit in McDonald’s even more than I do now and wait for Nolan to come along.
1: Who loves Zimoun?! We Love Zimoun!
He’s just the best at what he does, right? Check out his new installations which see his transform whole rooms into weird, moving parallel universes.
It seems that publications is this week’s theme for Things (unintentionally), and what a bunch of publications they are, from weird zines about bondage to a book all about stuffed animals. We know, we know, Things really is the best thing to ever come into your life.
Florent Ruppert and Jerome Mulot: Barrel of Monkeys
This hilarious graphic novel is by the creative duo Florent Ruppert and Jerome Mulot, and these cartoonists are known for their dark sense of humour. Barrel of Monkeys “prismatically examines the human bestiary at its most surreal and transgressive.” It also happens to be their first book published in English.

Alexis Turner: Taxidermy (Published by Thames & Hudson)
Removing the insides of animals and stuffing them might not be everyone’s cup of tea but you can’t deny you are fascinated by the subject. This beautiful book is written by Alexis Turner, founder of London Taxidermy, and takes you through all its aspects from taxidermy in museums to the freaks and fakes – seriously cracking up at the dancing hare.

Zines from Star Gods Press
The wonderful people at Star Gods Press sent us three zines of what can only be described as a bizarre combination of bondage, monsters and burgers. The publication house collaborates with different artists to create these wonderful zines, however weird they are!

Sarah Jury, Jamie Sutcliffe and Alice Butler: Arc Magazine #17.1
Arc is produced and edited by students at the Royal College of Art, with a host of interesting articles including one about the evacuation of the RCA to the Lake District in 1940. The simple design allows you to focus on the content which is thoroughly interesting and puts these guys talent into the spotlight.

Catlin Art Prize 2013
The Catlin Art Prize is a celebration of the UK’s most exciting new graduate and postgraduate artists. So if you happen to be in London before the May 26, head down to Redchurch street to the Londonewcastle project space. From installations to photography, we highly recommend you check it out and this printed collateral is really nicely done.

Tweet of the week:
“Imagine if the people who took photos of their food also took photos of their shits #fullcircle #food #shit”
Amen to that @thornecharlie
Best idea of the week (maybe ever?)
Ryan Gosling just does not want to eat his cereal! Naughty Ryan Gosling. Thank you Ryan McHenry
Gem from the days of yore of the week
This intensely choreographed motorbike display is mind-blowing enough until you realise that those men on bikes are actually bored policemen.
Kind of pointless but curiously informative list of the week
Screw the art! Charlie Porter gives us a well-informed and rather amusing scientific survey of the handbags on display at Frieze New York.
What does your selfie say about you?
Selfies are lame, but this is a genuinely informative nay inspirational study into what your arrogant self-snapshop says about you from Rookie..
Influential dog of the week
Hands up if you’re going to be imitating this funky pup on the sticky floor of Oceana tonight? Can I get a woop woop!
