The Weekender: Oil yourself up, it's the slip and slide we like to call The Weekender
“Ahoy ye thar Weekenders!” Shouted the withered old man from the top of the lighthouse, pipe dangling from his fishy beard. The good ship Weekender tumbled over the waves and rolled towards the bay. The Weekenders on board this barnacled vessel were busy inside the entertainment hall, gambling, boozing and pinching the bottoms of the caterers. One man said it was the best trip he’d ever had, but he probably had one too many.
6. Why is this the best car advert in the history of car adverts?
Probably because it hasn’t got any cars in it, just dancing chickens. Don’t ask, just watch.
5. Gah! The front of my house has fallen off!
Oh wait, no it’s fine, it’s just artist Alex Chinneck up to no good again. This time he’s slid the front of a Margate house right off. Magic.
4. Men tight-rope walking, in their underwear, over mountains.
It’s an advert for Paul Smith underwear, and it is absolutely unbelievable.
3. Girl gives scissors to her little sisters and suggests they play hairdressers
With the title of “courage”, this video could be a lot of things. Such a simple display of bravery, however is truly commendable. Just try and not watch it through your fingers!
2. New identity for the Serpentine Gallery!
Designed by Pentagram, this new look is all kinds of lovely.
1. A giant submarine has burst through the high street!
And no, this isn’t some Russian spy thriller, it’s real life and we’ve got MC & Saatchi to thank. What a spectacle!
A super fruity tropical tee from Ellie Andrews, a hunk of meat that looks a bit like a nipple on a signed tea towel, a guide to hunting typefaces out in the urban jungle, a illustrated food journal featuring several fancy vegetables and a new book bursting with goodness from comic book king Seth. Right? Right? I know, it’s great. Go right ahead.
Ellie King: T-Shirt Designs for Asos
Fancy garms from Ellie Andrews! Fresh from the bountiful doors of Camberwell, Ellie has designed a range of t-shirts which are both tropical and fruity (fo’real – there are strawberries and watermelons and everything) and luckily for you you can purchase them here.

Seth: Palookaville Vol. #21
Ah, Seth, God among graphic novel aficionados and lookalike to the characters in his own illustrations, can you ever do any wrong? Brand spanking new developments in the continuation of Part Four of Clyde Fans, Nothing Lasts which is the first half of a sketchbook memoir about the artists childhood in Ontario, and new entries to Seth’s decade-long comic strip diary. Should keep us going for a little while (we say, wryly stuffing the glorious publication up our jumpers and scurrying off home.)

James Joyce: Tea Towel
The Breed agency has an enviable roster of top creative talent on its books and is currently celebrating its graphic gorgeousness with a new show at The Cock N Bull gallery in east London. To celebrate the show, Breed hosted a terrific dinner this week where not only were the guests able to dine amid works from the likes of Kate Moross, Cat Garcia and Andy Gilmore, but they were greeted at the table with these awesome signed “Dead Meat” tea-towels by the irrepressible James Joyce. Magnificent!

Peter Dawson: The Field Guide to Typography
Thames and Hudson’s new publication is taking an outdoorsy approach to educating readers about typography, explaining the function it serves in places from “airplane liveries to computer screens” and “billboard hoardings to signage systems.” Featuring over 120 typefaces accompanied by photographs of them in situ, the book has has the overall effect of likening the act of spotting a typeface when out and about to glimpsing a giraffe on safari. Enjoying swotting up – this one’s going to impress. Seriously.

An Illustrated Food Journal: Central America
Thinking of heading to central America any time soon? Then HALT, my friend, and don’t forget to pick up your handy guide to nourishment and sustenance while you’re there drawn by the fair hand of illustrator Stephanie. Featuring “a collection of food and travel experiences hand drawn as ‘food notes’” the book will educate you about pupusas (Salvadoran filled tortillas) and chuchitos (a kind of bread wrapped in corn husks) and give you some visual tastiness, too. One for travellers and non-travellers alike.

The first of its kind and probably the best it’s going to get. This mix is a heady mix of Paul Simon, Hot Chocolate and John Cage’s interpretation of LCD Soundsystem. You can thank us later. Turn it up, I tell you! Up!
