Superb silliness from Aakash Nihalani's Sum Times series of interventions

Thanks to the rise and rise of a certain anonymous Bristolian, street art went through a period of taking itself slightly too seriously. It was obsessed with making statements which appeared punchy on first glance but pointed to a slightly grating sixth form sense of smash the system (the brilliant @banksyideas Twitter stream satirises this trend with unerring piquancy).

But certain practitioners have an effortless ability to create fun, funny and fabulous interventions and the brilliant Aakash Nihalani is certainly one of the best. His newest work Sum Times is a series of street art pieces which eschews questions of geopolitics or corporate greed in favour of pure silliness giving us the opportunity to reassess the mathematics apparently present in our everyday surroundings. Lovely stuff!
