Akos Major's photographs of water are beautifully sublime

I’ve had a soft spot for Akos Major’s photography for a long time now and his project Waters has been added to my virtual ‘like’ pile with no hesitation.

As an ongoing series, the collection contains images from all over the world including Thailand, Italy, Hungry and Germany among others. What fascinates me most is the consistency within the whole series, with Akos managing to capture the same level of calm and stillness in every shot, despite the varying conditions, climates and scenery.

While there are many people out there doing subdued landscapes with dusky tones, I feel Akos is setting the standard for this style of photography. The pale greys and blues are stunning and I love how the people within the images echo the same level of placidity as the water. It’s clear Akos has an interest in exploring how a human presence in these landscapes can alter them and how suddenly they’re more than just pretty vistas.
