Graphic designer Biba Košmerl takes on organised disorder and what it means to be a true modernist

For her thesis project at Yale, graphic designer Biba Košmerl made Organised Disorder, a book that deals with existential questions including: “Does our personality show in the way we approach food on a plate? Does it show in the way we choose clothes or furniture, or talk to loved ones? Can a hyperactive person with a short attention span ever be a true modernist?”

The book is organised with disorder and chaos in mind, a compilation of texts and images that relate to Biba’s work but in no particular order. She has written essays from the perspective of her pet chinchilla and the book itself, as well as her own, and presents the writing alongside photographs of animate aubergines, cotton-wool balls and gnawed pieces of bread. Biba graduated from Yale’s graphic design MFA earlier this year and is based in New York.
