Lee Ben David designs a brilliant set of Very Specific Cutlery

These have been doing the rounds a bit this week but it’s not hard to see why – Israeli designer Lee Ben David’s Very Specific Cutlery range is a middle-class gourmand’s perfectionist dream. A graduate of the BEZALEL Academy of Art And Design, Lee believes “that the products that surround us should make us smile, laugh and think beyond,” and this project does just that.

Each implement is designed for a very particular use; from piercing a cherry tomato and managing an edamame bean to plucking an artichoke or filleting a pitta bread. “We spend so much energy in separating the world from our body,” she says. “Furthermore we use sterilising products to kill every particle of nature that might touch us. This way we become unexposed to the feelings that the world offers us and our senses becomes dull. Having such thoughts in mind, I’ve created this unnecessary cutlery set: each piece is designed for a specific type of food, which we usually eat using our hands.”
