Ron Fuller has been making toys for over 50 years. Spend just two minutes with him via this “micro-doc” from film-maker Richard Hunter and you’ll understand why. With a pair of delicate hands and an affinity for the stranger end of novelties and knick-knacks – see the breast clocks and talking parrots – Ron has the air of an old sea captain who never made it out of the nursery. This tiny film illustrating a rapidly dying art manages to beautifully blend both process and persona, a feat dependent upon unforced aesthetics and an intuitive sense of storytelling; both of which London-based Hunter seems to have in spades.
