The photographer bringing together beauty and boredom, James Tolich

Date

Forget staid still-lifes, photographer James Tolich is celebrating the beauty of unadulterated boredom.

Across still life, portrait and fashion photography, the one constant in James’ portfolio is a continued sense of why bother? ennui. But the photographer’s work itself is anything but dull: making use of clever lighting arrangements, James creates images which are strikingly creative and sharply technical.

The Sydney and New York-based photographer describes his work as “stylised documentary that seeks to prioritise both overlooked details and designed aesthetics.”

He is currently making work for clients including American Vogue, Cos Stores, Barneys New York and Oyster. “I am working on one long term book project and hoping to have an exhibition in 2017. I’m also currently meeting with a few agencies in NYC and considering making the definitive move to grow and expand my work both commercially and editorially,” he tells It’s Nice That.
