David Hockney redesigns The Sun newspaper logo for one-off edition

David Hockney has redesigned The Sun newspaper logo for a one-off edition, out tomorrow 3 February. For the edition, the masthead on the front cover of the paper will be replaced with Hockney’s painted interpretation, and the artwork will be used on billboard advertising around London.

The edition will also feature an interview with Hockney.

According to The Sun, the artist decided to work with the tabloid newspaper because “he considers it one of the great icons of Britain”.

“I was delighted to be asked. Once I thought about the idea it didn’t take me long. The sun and The Sun. I love it.”

Tony Gallagher, editor-in-chief of The Sun said: “Nothing demonstrates the enduring position of The Sun in British culture like having Britain’s most-loved living artist redesign our logo. We’re immensely proud that we can offer Sun readers their own David Hockney, and incredibly grateful that he chose our newspaper.”

The Hockney special edition will be published 3 February 2017.
