The wellbeing and happiness of a workforce is vital to the success of any company. The major shifts in the way people work over the past two years has brought new challenges and opportunities to the world of work. In If You Could Jobs’ latest insight report, they explore how these shifts have affected the happiness, wellbeing and life satisfaction of the creative industry.

In November and December 2021, individuals working in the creative industry were invited by our sister site, If You Could, to participate in a 15-minute survey on job satisfaction, work-life balance, and mental wellbeing. The main findings are highlighted below.

  • Overall job satisfaction, happiness at work and work-life balance were lower than the national average. We found low levels of agreement for feeling a sense of accomplishment from work (45 per cent), happiness with salary (42 per cent), and satisfaction with prospects for career development (34 per cent).
  • We identified five key ways employers can improve the happiness of their employees. These include: better management, increased pay and appreciation, opportunities for career developments and creative freedom, and the provision of flexible working.
  • With 58 per cent of respondents looking to move in the next 12 months, our latest insight report revealed that the “Great Resignation” is indeed upon us. Job hunters are prioritising company culture (87 per cent), quality of work (84 per cent), and company reputation (53 per cent) when searching for their new employer.
  • We found that creative autonomy (43 per cent) and salary (41 per cent) were key motivations to stay with an employer. With clear career progression (25 per cent) and good benefits (20 per cent) cited by fewer people.
