Iggy Pop reads Dylan Thomas in new film by Grey London

Iggy Pop recites Dylan Thomas’ poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, in a new film by advertising agency Grey London. The short promotes the agency’s annual music seminar at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity opening 18 June, where Iggy will be in conversation with Grey’s chief creative officer Nils Leonard on 22 June.

The film features Iggy’s gravelly diction over layered footage of Iggy performing at gigs over the years, cut with erratic flashes of various violent and natural imagery. The line, “Rage, rage against the dying of the light,” rings as particularly poignant in relation to the famously unconventional and rebellious musican, aged 69.

Iggy also appears in a poster for the event, in which a torn-up photo of him is overlaid with text in an array of mixed typefaces.

Nils says that in a year that has seen countless legends fall, the film is “a salute to the most alive man I know.”

Previous Grey music seminars at Cannes have featured Debbie Harry, Patti Smith and Lou Reed. Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity takes place from 18-25 June 2016 and features a high profile roster of speakers including Anna Wintour, Stefan Sagmeister, Harvey Weinstein and Simon Pegg.
