Exhibition of comic artist heroes Aline Kominksy-Crumb and Robert Crumb to open in New York
Drawn Together an exhibition of works by husband and wife comic artist duo Aline Kominsky-Crumb and Robert Crumb, will take place at the David Zwirner gallery, New York, this month.
Both independent heroes of the underground comic book scene, Aline and Robert met in 1972 in the San Fransisco Bay Area. Soon after, the pair began to draw themselves and each other, first published together in Aline and Bob’s Dirty Laundry Comics in 1974. Within the ongoing series their alternate illustrative styles amalgamate through storytelling and humour, regularly pushing boundaries and taboos. Through revealing their personal thoughts and anxieties under the guise of illustration, their works give a very honest insight to their relationship over 30 years. As the Crumb family has grown, the comics now feature their daughter, also a comic artist, and their subsequent grandchildren.
Drawn Together is an opportunity to witness a selection of their celebrated publications and artworks. A version of the exhibition was previously on show at Cartoonmuseum in Basel and will open in New York on 12th January – February 18th 2017.
