Safari Festival has announced it will host Spanish cartoonist and illustrator Joan Cornellà alongside UK illustrators Laura Callaghan and Lizzy Stewart at this year’s event. The London comics festival is in its third year celebrating avant-garde comics, organised by British comics publisher Breakdown Press.

It will also be the first ever UK shows for Seattle-based cartoonist publisher Fantagraphics Books and Australian cartoonist Simon Hanselmann, a New York Times bestseller. They will exhibit with other publishers such as Decadence Comics and One Beat Zines.

Anna Haifisch has created the poster for this year’s event, and will also be exhibiting.

The curated group of UK cartoonists, illustrators and publishers will exhibit and sell their comics, prints and artworks for one day on 27 August. According to festival director Tom Oldham, the artists have been selected for their “innovative, fearless and diverse approach to making comics.”
