Alexander Kuliev’s proposed identity for Denmark’s largest harbour festival

Date

Russian designer Alexander Kuliev has designed this proposed identity for Kulturhavn, Denmark’s largest harbour festival. A tricolour tribute to the sea, the project adopts a typographic approach to all things nautical, eschewing imagery of any kind.

On first glance the extensive poster work feels like being bombarded with every idea the designer has had, but the breadth we’re presented with gives us a glimpse into his process. The project is the result of an open brief that invited handfuls of designers to create an identity for the festival. In Alexander’s proposal he splits apart words, dates and numbers and experiments with small segments of text through typography, composition, various colourways and styles.
