All-In

All-In is a publication from the brain of Benjamin Barron. The New York-born photographer started the biannual arts and culture print mag just months out of Bard College, where he studied photography. Having cut his teeth working for the likes of Collier Schorr and Ryan McGinley, he worked on a shoot with his mum for Marfa Journal, and All-In began.

All-In places its feet squarely in the present, collaborating with established and emerging artists. With issue one featuring Willem Dafoe shot by Alex Da Corte, issue two starring Harmony Korine lensed by Alexandra Gordienko and Amandla Stenberg, issue three had much to live up to. Clearly Benjamin was unfazed, collecting names like Fran Lebowitz, Rose McGowan, Mya Taylor and Torbjørn Rødland as cover lines.

All-In is made for everyone,” Benjamin tells It’s Nice That. “We try to feature a range of perspectives and practices each issue – hopefully there’s something for everyone.”

“The process starts out with a feeling,” the editor-in-chief says of the conception stage underlying each issue. “For All-In Nº3, it was a feeling of positivity in response to extreme negativity. We thought of a time where imagination could protect you from anything – like creating a pillow fortress. The rest is about figuring out how to get the feeling across.”

As for issue three, Benjamin tells us, “I genuinely am excited about every feature from All-In Nº3. If I had to name a few favourites today, I’d say Bless’ feature – the photographer Antje Peters made the most beautiful images with products from past BLESS editions, and we spoke with them about their “language,” not having a master plan, and designing products as long-term companions. I also love our feature with Site – James Wines, the founding architect, is a living genius. My friend, Thistle Brown, and I spoke with James about the then-recent election of Donald Trump and the loss in having almost all of your work destroyed – all that remains are artefacts. The feature’s design is influenced by Site’s Best Products Company Buildings – the text is tilted and crumbles, some falling off the page.”

Another special mention goes to Torbjørn Rødland, the LA-based photographer whose work has lately graced the Serpentine. “He made such a beautiful series of photographs for this issue and his words stick with me every day,” says Benjamin. “But again,” he signs off, “I truly love every feature from All-In Nº3.”
