Beccy Ridsdel: Art/Craft

Date
4 November 2011

This mesmerising project from Beccy Ridsdel pirouettes on the line where art and craft meet, slyly mocking the idea of a distinctive divide between the two. It recreates a surgical examination of various everyday ceramics – plates, mugs etc – with apparently frustrating results for the unseen surgeon. As Beccy puts it: “He finds craft through and through. He tries the experiment again and again, piling up the dissected work, hoping to see something different but it is always the same.” With an eye for texture and a string of conceptually-interesting projects, the rest of the portfolio is a treat too.
