Got any sacred objects lying about? Artist EMA wants to digitally destroy them

Musician and multi-media artist EMA has launched a call-out to members of the public to send her their “sacred objects,” which she will digitally destroy as part of a performance piece called I Wanna Destroy (Sacred Objects from Suburban Homes). The piece will take place as part of her residency in Station to Station: A Three Day Happening at the Barbican this summer, and will take the form of an immersive performance and installation featuring music, visuals, and a virtual reality environment for Oculus Rift.

“Please send in photos, drawings, descriptions of ur [sic] SACRED OBJECTS from suburban.childhood homes,” her website explains. “‘Suburban’ is a state of mind, not a geography. ‘Sacred’ is defined by you. Objects can be practical or decorative, old or new, prominently displayed or hidden away.” She cites “the crayons you stole from church,” an “autographed Seinfeld poster” and “the TV remote” as examples – but to clarify, it’s 3D virtual reality renders she’s going to destroy, and not the real thing. Find out where and how to send them here.

I Wanna Destroy (Sacred Objects from Suburban Homes) will take place as part of Station to Station: A Three Day Happening on 7 July at the Barbican, London.
