Fluffy punk pooches: Francesca Albergo can’t resist putting funny dogs into her work
Inspired by the folk and vernacular work of self-taught artists, the Italian creative’s practice is full of experiments, abstraction and free expression.

The work of illustrator and designer Francesca Albergo is all about the process, she says; particularly, the process of experimentation. Loving to work in a “naive and instinctive” manner (Francesca invests time in freehand drawing exercises every day), she’s constantly switching up her techniques and methods, always searching for analogue tools that let her “lose control” and that create unexpected results: magic crayons and ink stains, to name but a few.
Humour always finds its way into her creative work, no matter whether it’s a fashion project, kids illustration or sex toy design. This focus on humour and levity comes across brilliantly in Francesca’s many drawings of dogs, a subject she “can never resist” featuring in her work. We can’t get enough of her renditions of canines, especially the slightly incongruous pieces of small fluffy pooches with punk-esque hair dye and tattoos.
