The enchanting illustrations of Heta Bilaletdin

Date
4 November 2016

Heta Bilaletdin is an artist and illustrator “based in the forest of Miemala, Finland.” Her work is full of joyous scribbles created with such skill that the characters depicted are charmingly identifiable.

Across Heta’s work there is a Finnish enchantment, as minor details are elevated through a warm colour palette, enhanced by using layers of paint and pencil drawn patterns. Whether the illustrator is depicting architecture or animals her style is consistent in a refined quaintness.

From studying creative writing and animation, Heta’s ability to create a subtle narrative generates work you want to cherish. Her illustrations also regularly include snippets of text providing an insight into the characteristics of those depicted but also the illustrator.

One particular project of Heta’s that encapsulates each element of her illustrative flair is a comic short story, Ding Dong – Hyoky which features sketches, collages and paintings from a wealth of subjects. The result is a personable collection of illustrations of such warmth, Heta feels like an old friend.
