Kate Shaw’s process directly mimics the natural occurrences she’s trying to depict: poured acrylic flows across her canvases like lava; ink falls like a landslide; medium is the onrushing white of an avalanche. The resulting landscapes are dream-like and sometimes chaotic; made to question, the artist says, “our inherent connection to the natural world and continual distancing from it.”
