Delightfully pared-back coloured pencil illustrations by Liana Jegers

A couple of weeks back a parcel containing the newest issue of The Pendulum made its way through our door, leading us haphazardly but happily to the website of its creator, Liana Jegers. Chicago-based artist Liana is an illustrator as well as a co-ordinator of printed imagery, and her Tumblr is full of snippets of sketches in progress which stand up admirably on their own.

We were especially drawn to her brightly-coloured pencil landscape drawings, which are strangely reminiscent of David Hockney’s sketches in their knowing naivety and their suggestive outlines. Her portfolio serves as a sweet alternative to the relentless and at times brutal aesthetic you so often find yourself confronted with online, so if you’ve been having a tough week it’s probably advisable to sit down for a second and imagine you’re wandering absentmindedly along a riverbank in one of these dream worlds.
